Russian-Ukrainian Rocket Lifts Brazilian Satellite From Sea Launch Platform

Moscow. Jan 11 (Interfax) - A Russian-Ukrainian Zenit 3SL rocket carrying Brazil's Telstar 14 (Estrela do Sul) communication satellite, was launched from the Sea Launch floating platform at 7:13 a.m., Moscow time, on January 11, spokesman for Mission Control Valery Lyndin has told Interfax.
The launch, ordered by Space Systems/Loral, is the first of the three launches of SS/L 1300 satellites, scheduled for 2004. Fifty percent of the satellite's power will be focused on Brazil and the rest will cover the Americas and the North Atlantic Ocean, where Connexion by BoeingTM will use the satellite to provide its Internet- to-aircraft service. It is the first Sea Launch mission this year.
