NASA Awards Massachusetts Observatory Science Grant

WASHINGTON, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Earth Sun System Division, Washington, selected the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, Mass., for a grant to support the agency's study of the Earth's atmosphere. The maximum grant value is $853,144.

NASA solicited proposals in the area of the creation, enhancement and analysis of satellite remote-sensing data sets that enable research in the area of atmospheric trace gases and aerosols and their impacts on climate and air quality. Examples of possible topical areas included the use of data from NASA's Aura mission, other satellite and atmospheric composition data.

The research also supports the Vision for Space Exploration, NASA's long- term plan to return astronauts to the moon and extend exploration to Mars and beyond.
