Russia successfully launched a space freighter Saturday that carries supplies for the International Space Station.
The Progress M-57 freighter, propelled by a Soyuz rocket, was launched from the Baikonur Space Center in Kazakhstan, RIA Novosti reported. The freighter is loaded with food, water, fuel and research equipment for the space station.
Russian astronaut Pavel Vinogradov and Jeff Williams of the United States have been on board the space station since April 1. A European astronaut is scheduled to join them after the next space shuttle launch.
