April 21, 2004
UNITED STATES: Nasa launched a $700m (pounds 390m) satellite into orbit yesterday to test Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity. The Gravity Probe B, which took 45 years to build and is one of the most precise scientific instruments ever constructed, was carried aloft by a Boeing Delta 2 from the rocket range at California’s Vandenberg Air Force base.
