The Civilian Space eXploration Team (CSXT) www.civilianspace.com has received final approval from the FAA to conduct the world's first amateur space launch. The launch will take place the week of May 17th in Black Rock Desert, Nevada.
CSXT's GoFast rocket is 21.5 feet tall, weighs 720 pounds, and produces 12,000 pounds of thrust. By any measure, it is the largest, most powerful amateur rocket ever built.
Jerry Larson, the Launch Conductor for this historic flight, said, "All systems are go. The team is ready. The rocket is ready. And the long-range weather forecast looks favorable for this history-making event." Larson continued, "Within 10 seconds of launch, the rocket will be traveling five-times the speed of sound -- Mach 5 -- and on it's way into space."
The CSXT GoFast rocket will reach an estimated 70 miles in altitude -- well beyond the internationally recognized boundary of space of 62 miles / 100 kilometers.
CSXT was founded in 1995 by renowned Hollywood stunt man and inventor, Ky Michaelson. Since that time, CSXT has grown to 18 individuals and space enthusiasts from all across the U.S. Their common passion: to open the space frontier for everyone.
The record-breaking rocket flight is sponsored by Go Fast Sports (www.gofastsports.com) and Fuscient, LLC (www.fuscient.com).
