Ohio Education Association Elects President and Vice President

COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Ohio Education Association President Gary Allen was re-elected Friday to head Ohio's largest education employee union. OEA represents 131,000 teachers, education support professionals and higher education faculty and is the fifth largest state affiliate of the 2.7 million-member National Education Association.
Allen ran unopposed and was elected by acclamation of the OEA's Representative Assembly, the governing body of the organization. The RA is comprised of more than 1,300 member delegates from OEA local affiliates throughout Ohio.
Allen is currently serving his first three-year term as OEA President, and will begin his new term September 1, 2004. He served as OEA Vice President for seven years before assuming the presidency in 2001.
An active OEA member throughout his entire career, Allen worked for 27 years as a teacher with the Xenia City Schools. He served as president of the Xenia Education Association, member of the OEA Executive Committee and was a member of the NEA Board of Directors. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Central State University and a Master of Education degree from Wright State University.
Also re-elected to a second term was OEA Vice President Patricia Frost- Brooks, who will serve another three-year term. Frost-Brooks worked as a middle school computer science/word processing teacher for the East Cleveland City Schools before being elected OEA's vice president in 2001.
As Vice President, Frost-Brooks chaired OEA's Comprehensive Education Committee and served as Chair of the Legislative Commission. She has served in a wide variety of association positions, and was president of the North Eastern OEA and president of the East Cleveland Education Association. Frost- Brooks earned a Bachelor's degree from Capitol University and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Ashland University.
The Ohio Education Association represents 131,000 teachers, faculty members, and support employees in Ohio's public schools, colleges and universities.
