KOROLYOV, Moscow region. May 27 (Interfax) - The computer software of the International Space Station (ISS) will be replaced in mid-June.
"After a spacewalk [which is scheduled for mid-June], we will have to accomplish a difficult task. We will install a new mathematical version of the entire computer software system, which effectively amounts to upgrading the station's intellect," Vladimir Solovyov, who is in charge of the ISS' Russian segment, told journalists on Thursday.
"This will be the sixth software replacement since the ISS started to operate," Solovyov said.
This step will make it easier for Mission Control experts and the ISS crew to operate the station, he said.
A Progress M-49 cargo spaceship docked with the ISS earlier today to deliver food supplies, fuel and parcels for the ISS ninth crew, which includes Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka and NASA astronaut Michael Fincke.
