New Head of Russian Space Forces Appointed

MOSCOW. June 8 (Interfax) - Major General Alexander Kvasnikov has been appointed head of staff of the Russian Space Forces, a source in the Space Forces' press service told Interfax on Tuesday.
"From July 1, 2001 Major General Kvasnikov had been first deputy head of staff of the Space Forces," the source said.
Kvasnikov was born on December 16, 1956 in Chuguyev, Kharkiv region. He graduated from the Kharkov High Military Command Institute in 1979, the Dzerzhinsky Military Academy in 1991 and the Russian General Staff Academy in 1998. Kvasnikov held various posts in the Russian Space Forces' command and in the strategic space missile forces.
