Star City, We Have a Problem

Posted on: Monday, 12 July 2004, 06:00 CDT

For now at least, Gregory Olsen is grounded. This, after the intrepid CEO of Sensors Unlimited in West Windsor failed a round of medical tests in Russia last week. Olsen, 58, agreed to pay $20 million to Space Adventures in Arlington, Virginia, to realize a dream of blasting off aboard a Soyuz spacecraft to orbit the earth in the International Space Station. He was set to liftoff from the Baikonour Cosmodrome next April, but first had to undergo months of training and rigorous medical tests in Star City, Russia. Robert Volmer, vice president of communications for Space Adventures, would not say what medical condition stalled Olsen's training. Known for his determination, the wealthy entrepreneur is not giving up his dream of space flight, says Volmer. "A number of other cosmonauts have failed these tests...and have eventually traveled to space."
