Baykonur, 17 July: Three Soyuz rockets, which will be taken by the Fregat boosters, are planned to be launched from the Baykonur cosmodrome [in Kazakhstan] in the second half of 2005.
"The Venera-Express, METOP and Galileo spacecraft will be taken into space by the Soyuz rockets boosted by Fregat from the cosmodrome's 31st launching pad," the director and the chief designer of the centre for putting spacecraft into orbit and deputy general director of the [Russian] Lavochkin scientific and industrial association, Vladimir Asyushkin, said.
He said that the association was currently building the Fregat boosters for those launches.
"The schedule of launches is very busy. The implementation of the programme is in full swing. We have to make sure that everything is done properly," Asyushin said.
Venera-Express is the first European interplanetary station for the exploration of Venera, and METOP is a European polar meteorological satellite of the EPS [EUMETSAT Polar System] meteosystem.
The Galileo satellite will be launched from Baykonur for developing the eponymous European navigation system. This satellite will be developing technologies for the future navigation system.
