MOSCOW. Jan 25 (Interfax) – The prevention of an arms race in space is a key item on the agenda of the Disarmament Conference that opened in Geneva on January 22, says a report posted on the Russian Foreign Ministry website on Wednesday.

“Preventing an arms race in space is a priority issue for the Russian delegation to the forum. An agreement preventing the deployment of any weaponry in space and the use of force against objects in space would strengthen security in near-earth space and guarantee its further unhampered exploration in the interests of all mankind,” the report says.

The ministry also called for drafting a treaty that would ban the production of fissile materials for nuclear weapons and devices.
