Space Station Spacewalk Termed Successful

Posted on: Thursday, 1 February 2007, 12:00 CST

NASA says the first of three spacewalks in nine days by the current International Space Station crew was a success.

The spacewalk ended at 6:09 p.m. EST Wednesday.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration said Cmdr. Michael Lopez-Alegria and astronaut Sunita Williams conducted the 7-hour, 55-minute excursion, reconfiguring one of two cooling systems, rearranging electrical connections and securing the starboard radiator of the space station's P6 truss after retraction.

NASA mission controllers in Houston said the other spacewalks planned by Lopez-Alegria and Williams are scheduled for next Sunday and Thursday.
