Pavilion Patrons Can Take Bus ; Service To Start With Bigger Shows
By LLOYD JOJOLA Journal Staff Writer
A park-and-ride option will again be available to Journal Pavilion concertgoers this year.
ABQ Ride will offer its Rock Star Shuttle for select concerts at the pavilion starting with the May 3 Gwen Stefani show, the city Transit Department announced. It also will be available for the May 27 Stevie Nicks and Chris Isaak performance.
Shuttle service to more shows could be added later, but for now ABQ Ride is focusing on serving concerts that are expected to be bigger draws.
“We’ve met with Journal Pavilion (operators) this year and they say that Gwen Stefani is possibly one of the biggest concerts they’ve ever had there,” said ABQ Ride spokesman Jay Faught.
The Rock Star Shuttle was launched by the city last year.
While use of the service started slowly last season — 34 people rode it for the first concert, the Kid Rock show, in late April — ridership did grow.
For the August 2006 John Fogerty/Willie Nelson concert, 115 passengers used it.
This year, the opening of the University Boulevard extension is expected to help move traffic to and from the Mesa del Sol venue as well. Rock Star Shuttle
The ABQ Ride shuttle trips originate at two locations: the Macaroni Grill park-and-ride lot near Winrock Center and the Southwest Mesa park-and-ride at Central and Unser.
Buses will leave for the pavilion 90 minutes before the concert begins and 20 minutes after the concert has ended.
