TO THE EDITOR: I have to question the decision by NASA to spend $800 million exploring the planet Mars in an effort to find the existence of life and/or water. If life does exist on Mars, Martians will contact us when they are ready.

'Penuche' is a variant of 'panocha,' a coarse grade of sugar made in Mexico. 'Panocha' probably comes from the Spanish 'panoja, panocha,' ear of grain.
