A new, stunning image of the cosmic spider, the Tarantula Nebula and its surroundings, finally pays tribute to this amazing, vast and intricately sculpted web of stars and gas. It can be seen far down in the southern sky at a distance of about 170,000 light-years.
Discovery landed safely at 5:32 p.m. EST on Dec. 22 at Kennedy Space Center, bringing STS-116â€™s successful mission to the International Space Station to an end. The astronauts continued the on-orbit construction of the station and delivered a new Expedition 14 crew member.
- Any of various tropical Old World birds of the family Indicatoridae, some species of which lead people or animals to the nests of wild honeybees. The birds eat the wax and larvae that remain after the nest has been destroyed for its honey.
