Garmin Vector Power Pedals Due in September at HRWC

July 29, 2013

The much anticipated Garmin Vector power pedals for cycling offer left/right power balance and will finally be available at the Heart Rate Watch Company in September.

Bozeman, MT (PRWEB) July 28, 2013

Garmin Vector power pedals for cycling were all the rage in 2012 and even earned Cycling News product of the year but then production was delayed according to the Heart Rate Watch Company.

"Garmin wanted to have the best possible product and felt that they needed to make changes to the Vector to achieve this, which is why they did not rush its development and launch", says Rusty Squire, President of the Heart Rate Watch Company.

DEBUT

"My guess is that you'll see Team Garmin pro riders using this product in August at the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, but that is just a guess", says Squire. He adds, "Hopefully we will have them for distribution at the retail level in September and at a price point of $1,699, although Garmin has made no final price announcements yet".

"We weren't going to say anything but when Bike Radar jumped the gun with a July 23rd press release on the product the secret was out", says Squire. He adds, "It is an odd time of year to launch them for cyclists but for World Ironman triathlon competitors it is good timing".

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The product uses a series of strain gauges and is reported to now have a silver, as opposed to black, color. The output will offer total power in watts, normalized power, training stress score, intensity factor, left/right power balance, cadence, ANT+ standard and per pedal weight of 119 grams or 4.25 ounces.

The pedal pod will add 19 grams and Look Keo compatible cleats will weigh in at 38 grams according to Squire.

"The pedal pods will contain a 2032 lithium coin cell battery, about $3.90 for two at your local Wal-Mart, and they last for about 200 hours of continuous operation", says Squire. He adds, "No current photos of the new pedal, which is silver, were available at press time".

COMPATIBILITY

The new Vector power pedals will work with the Garmin Edge 510, Edge 810, Garmin Edge 500 and 800. "Theoretically, they should work with any bike computer or watch receiving ANT+ but Garmin will have to make that decision with both signal transmission and firmware decisions that they have not yet announced", says Squire.

The Vector will also work with the Garmin Forerunner 910XT GPS watch for triathlon.

THE TESTING

"We jointly sponsor Team Rockford with Garmin and I know some of our riders will be getting them right away but September is cycle-cross season and most of them will use these on their road bikes", says Squire. He adds, "We are super excited about the product but it will take some time to win back all the customers we had ready to buy this in 2012".

You can call the Heart Rate Watch Company at 866-586-7129 to be placed on an advanced reservation list with final pricing and advanced orders to be entered when Garmin arrives at final pricing.
