NHL: Montreal 3, Ottawa 2 (SO)
Alex Tanguay scored the game-winning goal in the fourth round of the shootout Thursday, giving the Montreal Canadiens a 3-2 decision over Ottawa.
After each side managed one goal during the shootout's first three rounds, Ottawa's Antoine Vermette shot wide against Carey Price. Tanguay then carried the puck on his backhand side all the way to the goal and was able to slip it through the pads of Alex Auld.
Price made 23 saves for his ninth win of the year and Montreal got regulation goals from Saku Koivu and Andrei Markov, who forced overtime by scoring with 4:24 remaining in the third period. The Canadiens have won two out of three.
Ottawa has dropped six straight. Montreal has defeated the Senators four straight times, two of those victories coming this year.
