Obama pitches Chicago for 2016 Olympics
President-elect Barack Obama pitched his home city of Chicago to Olympics organizers Friday with a videotaped presentation delivered in Istanbul, Turkey.
Obama urged the European Olympic Committee XXXVII General Assembly to consider the Windy City as the site of the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Obama’s Web site said the message was part of the presentation the Chicago delegation gave in Istanbul.
The United States would be honored to have the opportunity to host the Games and serve the Olympic Movement, Obama said in his message.
As president-elect, I see the Olympic and Paralympic Games as an opportunity for our nation to reach out, welcome the world to our shores, and strengthen our friendships across the globe.
