Rookie goaltender Steve Mason of Columbus faced just 15 shots Saturday in his first NHL career shutout, a 2-0 win over the Atlanta Thrashers.
The only goal Mason needed was scored by Rick Nash at 8:26 of the first period.
R.J. Umberger scored into an empty net with just over 2 minutes left in the third period after an assist from Nash for the Blue Jackets, who had lost three of their previous four outings.
Ondrej Pavelec stopped 28-of-29 shots for the Thrashers, who have lost three in a row after a season-high five-game winning streak.
Neither team scored on the power play in five combined man-advantage chances.
