Ted Williams items auctioned

Posted on: Monday, 24 November 2008, 14:32 CST

Auctioneers say about 150 antique aficionados and baseball fans bid on items from the New England estate of Boston Red Sox legend Ted Williams.

The sale in West Swanzey, N.H. on Sunday featured an array of items from Williams' Vermont estate, including big game trophies that came from his African hunting trips rather than Fenway Park.

It's a little bit of history, audience member Larry Guerette told The Boston Globe.

The newspaper said Monday the lot included a piano, a Navajo rug and a 1987 GMC Suburban with a baseball hood ornament that Guerette purchased.

Williams' 73-year-old third wife, Delores, who moved to Florida after suffering a stroke, owned the items.

The Globe said an auction of Williams' baseball memorabilia would be held next spring.
