Oklahoma tops BCS poll, will face Florida

Oklahoma and Florida topped the Bowl Championship Series poll Sunday and will square off in the college football championship game Jan. 8 in Miami.

The two teams are offense powerhouses. The Sooners had the No. 1 offense in the nation this season while Florida averaged 45 points per game.

The top 10 teams in the final BCS standings were: Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, Alabama, USC, Utah, Texas Tech, Penn State, Boise State and Ohio State.

The other bowls announced Sunday included the Rose Bowl Jan. 1, featuring a resurgent Penn State against USC in a traditional battle between the Big 10 and Pac 10 champs.

The Orange Bowl Jan. 1 will pit Virginia Tech against Cincinnati. The Hokies won their third consecutive ACC title while the Big East champ Bearcats make their first appearance in a New Year's bowl.

The Sugar Bowl Jan. 2 has undefeated Utah going against 12-1 Alabama. The Crimson Tide had been in the hunt for the BCS championship game until this weekend when they fell to Florida. Utah comes out of the Mountain West Conference for its second BCS bowl appearance.

Texas Tech and Ole' Miss will clash in the Cotton Bowl Jan. 2.

Ohio State will miss the national title game for the first time in three years but will still have its hands full in the Fiesta Bowl against Texas Jan. 5. Texas had its eye on the championship game as well, but faces a Buckeye team that has won in the Fiesta Bowl four consecutive times.
