Sources say Sabathia headed to New York
Several unnamed sources say pitcher CC Sabathia, the star of the offseason free agency baseball market, is set to sign with the New York Yankees.
The sources said the 27-year-old left-hander has tentatively agreed to a seven-year deal worth nearly $160 million with the Yankees. The free agency deal is pending minor contract details and he must pass a physical, sources added.
Sabathia, who started last season with the Cleveland Indians before being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers, had an 11-2 record and 1.65 ERA with the Brewers. He had a 2.70 ERA and notched 251 strikeouts for the year.
The pitcher was also credited with helping the Brewers earn the team’s first playoff appearance in 26 years.
Sabathia, who had garnered interest from the Brewers and other teams, has a career 3.66 ERA and a 117-73 record. He has notched 26 complete games in his career, including seven during his successful stretch last season.
