Joe Sakic out after finger surgery

December 10, 2008

Colorado Avalanche center Joe Sakic will miss the next three months following finger and tendon damage.

Sakic, already suffering from a herniated disc, hurt the fingers in a snowblower accident at his house Tuesday afternoon.

The disc injury caused him to sit out several games in November, and an infected tooth also sidelined him on Nov. 24.

Joe’s surgery was performed by a hand specialist, Dr. Andy Parker, Colorado team physician, said Wednesday on the Avalanche’s Web site. The procedure went well and (he) is expected to make a full recovery.

To date, Sakic, playing in his 20th NHL season, has 12 points (two goals and 10 assists) in 15 games.

His 205 power play goals rank 12th all-time in that category.
