Stephen Weiss scored the only goal of the shootout Friday night to give the Florida Panthers a 3-2 victory over Calgary.

It was the Panthers’ third win in a row and lifted them past Carolina by a point into second place in the Southeast Division. Calgary has dropped three straight.

Tomas Vokoun stopped the three shots he saw in the shootout after making 35 saves in regulation and overtime. He outdueled Miikka Kiprusoff, who turned aside Michael Frolik and Kamil Kreps in the shootout before giving up the goal to Weiss.

Weiss’ shot scooted along the ice and snuck between Kiprusoff’s pads.

Rene Bourque scored both the Calgary goals, boosting his total for the season to 10. He forged a 2-2 tie 3:12 into the second period and the goaltenders did not allow another score until Weiss ended the game.
