Forwards Phil Kessel of the Boston Bruins, Petr Sykora of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Thomas Vanek of Buffalo are the latest NHL players of the week.

Kessel had eight points in four games last week — three goals and five assists — to earn the No. 1 star award.

The Bruins forward ranks third in goals-scored with 19 this season.

Sykora was chosen the No. 2 star after a week that included his first NHL hat trick — against the New York Islanders. Sykora also chalked up five assists.

Vanek is the third star. The Sabres star hit five goals, including two game-winners. Vanek leads the league in goals with 24.

The NHL each Monday honors three players for their performances during the previous week.
