The unbeaten and nationally-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes learned Thursday they would be without guard David Lighty for at least six weeks following foot surgery.

Lighty is the most experienced player on the Ohio State roster, having played 83 games with 51 starts. He is also the only remaining member of the 2007 squad that went to the NCAA title game.

He equaled his career high Wednesday by scoring 21 points in an 81-68 win over Jacksonville, but suffered a broken bone in his left foot late in that contest and underwent surgery Thursday.

Ohio State has gotten off to a 7-0 start and is ranked No. 16. The Buckeyes are at home against Iona Saturday and open Big Ten Conference play Dec. 31 at home against Iowa.

Lighty is averaging 9.7 points per game this season.
