COL FB: Colorado St. 40, Fresno St. 35
Gartrell Johnson ran for 285 yards, caught five passes for 90 more and scored twice Saturday in Colorado State’s 40-35 New Mexico Bowl win over Fresno State.
Johnson’s second touchdown came on a 77-yard run late in the fourth quarter.
Colorado State’s Billy Farris completed 17-of-29 passes for 257 yards with an interception and two touchdowns, including a 69-yard touchdown pass to Rashaun Green that put the Rams (7-6) ahead for good late in the fourth quarter.
It was Colorado State’s first bowl win since beating North Texas in the New Orleans Bowl in 2001.
Fresno State (7-6) was led by Anthony Harding and Lonyae Miller, who each scored two touchdowns with 120 and 113 rushing yards, respectively. Tom Brandstater passed for 186 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs, who appeared in their ninth bowl game in 10 years.
