NBA: Utah 97, Dallas 88
Ronnie Brewer scored 21 points Friday and the Utah Jazz put together an excellent defensive effort to defeat Dallas 97-88.
The Mavericks had a three-game winning streak snapped and their hopes for a fourth-quarter comeback were reduced when Dirk Nowitzki was kicked out of the game for committing a flagrant foul early in the final period.
Kosta Koufos chipped in 18 points for the Jazz and Detron Williams had 17 points to go with 13 assists and four steals. Utah had lost four of its previous six.
The Jazz played without forwards Carlos Boozer (knee) and Mehmet Okur (back).
Jason Terry led Dallas with 26 points and Josh Howard had 18 while the Mavericks were shooting just 40 percent from the field. Nowitzki scored 17 before his ejection, which came when he caught Matt Harpring in the mouth with a backhand while they were tangled under the basket.
Dallas made only one field goal during the final 6:30.
