Soccer star Gerrard arrested after brawl
Police in England’s Merseyside county said Monday they have arrested Liverpool Football Club star Steven Gerrard in connection with a brawl.
An unidentified police spokesman said the British midfielder was arrested early Monday along with five other men and charged with suspicion of assault, The Times of London reported.
Merseyside police (are) investigating an assault that took place in the early hours of Monday, Dec. 29, on Bold Street in Southport, the spokesman said.
A 34-year-old man from Southport was taken to hospital with facial injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
Police said the six assault suspects’ ages range between 18 and 33, including the 28-year-old English Premier League player.
The incident allegedly occurred as Gerrard was out celebrating his team’s 5-1 victory over Newcastle United on Sunday, The Times said.
