NBA: Detroit 93, Denver 90
Arron Afflalo finished off a Detroit comeback by making six free throws in the final 9 seconds Friday night, carrying the Pistons past Denver 93-90.
The dramatic ending came in the first game in Denver for Allen Iverson since he was traded by the Nuggets to Detroit in November. The Nuggets received Chauncey Billups in that deal and have gone 24-10 since then.
Denver, however, let a 10-point lead disappear in the fourth quarter and Tayshaun Prince put the Pistons in front by one with a layup with 20 seconds to go. Afflalo then made two free throws with 9 seconds left and two more with 7 seconds remaining, each time giving Detroit a three-point lead.
Denver’s J.R. Smith was fouled attempting a three-point shot with 5 seconds left, but he could make only two of the three foul shots. That left Detroit in front by one and Afflalo converted two more free throws with 4 seconds left for the final points of the game.
Billups missed a three-point attempt at the buzzer.
Iverson scored 23 points, Prince had 19 and Afflalo 17.
Billups paced the Nuggets with 30.
