Croatia’s Cilic takes title in India

Croatian Marin Cilic defeated Indian wild card Somdev Devvarman in straight sets Sunday in the championship match of the Chennai Open in India.

Cilic, 20, the event’s No. 3 seed, won 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). It was his second title on the ATP Tour.

I’ve been working very hard during this off-season and I’m glad that the work has paid off so fast, Cilic said.

The 23-year-old Devvarman played in his first ATP final.

Losing is not fun, but I don’t want to be too negative on myself, Devvarman. I will try to learn from the chances I missed today and improve my game.
