NHL: Columbus 4, Colorado 3
R.J. Umberger gave Columbus the first of its three third-period goals Tuesday, bringing the Blue Jackets a 4-3 decision over Colorado.
The third period opened in a 1-1 tie, but the Blue Jackets prevailed during the wild final stanza to capture their third straight and end Colorado’s winning streak at three.
Steve Mason, who has recorded six shutouts in his rookie season, made 23 saves to pick up a win for the sixth time in eight starts. Colorado goaltender Andrew Raycroft had a career-best, six-game winning streak halted.
Umbarger put Columbus in front 6:46 into the third period with a power-play goal and Chris Stewart tied it for Colorado 50 seconds later.
It took Kristian Huslius just 65 seconds to give Columbus the lead again, this time for good, and Michael Peca beat Raycroft 30 seconds after that for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
Ryan Smyth produced a power-play goal for Colorado, the fifth score in a span of less than 4 minutes.
Columbus has won five of the last six meetings with Colorado.
