NBA: Orlando 109, LA Lakers 103
Jameer Nelson’s clutch three-pointer put Orlando in front with 35 seconds to play Friday and the Magic went on to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 109-103.
Orlando won its sixth consecutive game and improved the NBA’s best road record to 16-5. The Magic improved to 3-0 on a four-game road trip that concludes in Denver Saturday.
After falling behind by 10 in the third period, the Lakers took a 103-101 lead with 53 seconds to go on Pau Gasol’s layup. Nelson then put Orlando back in front for good with his key three-point shot.
After Kobe Bryant missed a jumper for the Lakers, Nelson made two foul shots for a three-point advantage.
Bryant’s bid to tie the game with 8 seconds remaining rattled in and out and Orlando finished off the game at the free throw line.
Nelson scored 28 points to lead Orlando and Dwight Howard had 25.
Bryant paced the Lakers with 28.
