Fight mars the Australian Open

An ugly fight between Serbs and Bosnians erupted Friday outside Rod Laver Arena, the venue for the annual Australian Open tennis tournament.

The ethically charged incident started when a drink was thrown following a match between Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Bosnian Amer Delic, who are friends off the court.

Several spectators were ejected from the grounds after a number of chairs also were thrown .

During the fracas, a chair struck and injured a young Bosnian woman bystander, who was unconscious for a short period of time.

She was treated by medics at the scene and refused to press charges.

It (the chair) hit her in the back of the head, a witness told the Melbourne Herald Sun.

There is absolutely no place for that, Delic said. I mean, Novak and I are friends (and) this is a tennis match.

The newspaper said 30 fans were thrown out of Melbourne Park.
