Coach fired for comment on 100-0 victory
The girls basketball coach for the Covenant School in Dallas was fired for commenting online about his team's recent 100-0 victory, a school official says.
Covenant School head Kyle Queal said coach Micah Grimes was fired during the weekend for saying on a youth basketball Web site that Covenant officials should not have apologized for the team's lopsided win over Dallas Academy, The Dallas Morning News said Monday.
I respectfully disagree with the apology, especially the notion that the Covenant School girls basketball team should feel 'embarrassed' or 'ashamed,' Grimes said in the online posting on flightbasketball.com.
We played the game as it was meant to be played and would not intentionally run up the score on any opponent.
Covenant officials had posted an apology for the uneven score on the school's Web site last Thursday in the wake of the school's Jan. 13 game against Dallas Academy.
The Morning News said Grimes even acknowledged in his posting that he may be fired for his online comments.
So if I lose my job over these statements, I will walk away with my integrity, the coach, who was fired Sunday, said.
