NHL: San Jose 3, Colorado 0
January 27, 2009
The San Jose Sharks rode Evgeni Nabokov’s 43rd career shutout to a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Avalanche Tuesday.
Nabokov turned back 31 Avalanche shots to get the job done.
The Sharks got what turned out to be the winning goal at 8:15 of the first period when Milan Michalek scored on the power play after getting a centering pass from Christian Ehrhoff. He also got an insurance goal, snapping a wrist shot past Andrew Raycroft from the right face-off circle 1:31 into the second period.
Patrick Marleau added an empty-netter as the Sharks won for the sixth time in their last seven games.
We played a smart game tonight,
Nabokov said.
Raycroft made 35 saves for the Avalanche, who have dropped five of six.
