Reggie Redding’s 18 points and seven rebounds Wednesday keyed No. 21 Villanova’s 67-57 Big East Conference upset of third-ranked Pittsburgh.
Villanova pulled off its victory in the final college basketball contest at Philadelphia’s Spectrum after trailing 31-26 at halftime.
Redding’s two free throws put Villanova ahead for good at 50-48 with 8:03 remaining, and two more with 47 seconds left were the game’s final points.
Dante Cunningham scored 15 with four rebounds, and Scottie Reynolds added 10 points for the Wildcats (16-4, 4-3), who won back-to-back games for the first time since ending December with a four-game winning streak. They beat a ranked opponent for the first time this season.
Sam Young led Pitt with 14 points and seven rebounds. Brad Wanamaker scored 13, while Levance Fields had 11 with three assists.
Front court star DeJuan Blair battled foul trouble and was limited to seven points and eight rebounds for the Panthers (18-2, 6-2), who have split their last four outings.
