Rookie sensation Steve Mason made 18 saves to record his seventh shutout of the season Friday in the Columbus Blue Jackets’ 1-0 blanking of Ottawa.
Mason, who recorded three consecutive shutouts at the end of December, improved his first-year NHL record to 19-11-2. It was the Blue Jackets’ second straight victory and their third in five games.
The only goal came on the power play from Jakub Voracek 3:55 into the second period. It was his eighth goal of the season.
Alex Auld made 24 saves for the Senators, who have lost three out of five.
Ottawa, which has not won in Columbus since February 2002, was shut out for the fifth time this season.
