COL BKB: Illinois 62, Iowa 54
Mike Tisdale’s 18 points with three rebounds Sunday led No. 20 Illinois to a hard-fought 62-54 Big Ten victory against Iowa.
The win followed a 25-22 halftime deficit, and an embarrassing 59-36 loss at Minnesota last Thursday.
Tisdale’s back-to-back jumpers put Illinois in front for good at 37-33 with 14:19 remaining.
Dominique Keller’s three-pointer made it 43-36, but the Hawkeyes fought back, trimming the deficit to just 46-45 on a David Palmer free throw with 8:46 left.
From that point, Iowa’s comeback effort ran out of gas.
Keller, the only other player in double figures, scored 12 points.
Demetri McCamey had nine points and seven assists, while Calvin Brock scored eight points with eight rebounds for the Fighting Illini (18-4, 6-3), who extended their home court winning streak to nine in a row.
Jeff Peterson’s 12 points and six assists led Iowa.
Both Matt Gatens and Jarryd Cole scored 10 points for the Hawkeyes (12-10, 2-7), who have lost three straight.
