Croatians Marin Cilic and Ivan Ljubicic were among Monday’s opening-round winners at the Zagreb Indoors.

The second-seeded Cilic defeated French veteran Arnaud Clement 6-4, 6-3, and former top-10 Ljubicic beat Belgian Christophe Rochus 6-4, 6-1 in the first European even on the 2009 ATP World Tour.

Cilic, 20, won a tournament in Chennai last month. Ljubicic, the 2006 Zagreb champion, was last year’s runner-up in Zagreb to Russian Sergiy Stakhovsky.

In other first-day action, Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili beat fellow countryman Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-4; Croatian wild card Antonio Veic beat Argentine Guillermo Canas 4-6, 6-4, 6-2; and Florent Serra beat fellow Frenchman Marc Gicquel 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2).
