Durrell Summers ignited Michigan State to a quick start Wednesday and the 14th-ranked Spartans coasted to a 76-47 blasting of No. 19 Minnesota.
Michigan State scored the first eight points of the game, took a 13-1 lead and Summers hit his first four shots. He finished with 21 points to keep the Spartans (18-4, 9-2 Big Ten) at the top of the conference race.
The Spartans avoided what would have been their first three-game home losing streak in 12 years.
Minnesota (18-4, 6-4) was led by Devoe Joseph with 11 points. The Golden Gophers shot just 28.8 percent from the field, making only 15 field goals. By the time Minnesota made its first shot from the field, it was facing a 23-point deficit.
