Josh Howard led the way with 23 points Wednesday and Dallas held on to down Portland 104-99, ending the Trail Blazers’ five-game winning streak.

Dallas won its fourth straight, getting 20 points from Jason Terry and 19 from Brandon Bass. Dirk Nowitzki was limited to 16 points, nine below his average, but the Mavericks shot 55 percent from the floor.

Portland was paced by Brandon Roy with 26.

Dallas owned an 82-72 advantage going into the fourth quarter and that lead was trimmed to six when Rudy Fernandez hit a long-range shot with 4:19 to go.

Bass then scored five straight points and Howard scored on a tip-in, giving Dallas a 100-87 cushion with 1:32 left.
