ZZ Top to headline Preakness concert
Preakness Stakes Day activities next May in Baltimore will include an infield concert featuring Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members ZZ Top.
Preakness officials Thursday said the concert would be part of changes for the infield at the Pimlico Race Course ahead of the May 16 running of the second leg of U.S. horse racing’s Triple Crown.
The Preakness Stakes is the biggest single-day sporting event in the state “¦ said Maryland Jockey Club President Tom Chuckas.
In 100 days, the best 3-year-old horses will be in Baltimore and we feel it is time for our public infield customers to enjoy a new way to party. In this year of change it is now time to transform the Preakness Infield experience.
The changes will include a ban on cans and bottles being taken into the infield area, a release said. Drinks, including beer, will be available for purchase from vendors. Outside food will be permitted but cooler size will be limited. Advance tickets for the infield will be $50.
In addition to ZZ Top, the infield concert will feature Buckcherry with a third band to be announced later. There also will be a pro volleyball tournament and an interactive section, officials said.
