Swedish skiing star out with knee injury
Swedish alpine skier Jessica Lindell-Wikarby has suffered a potentially career-threatening knee injury, the Stockholm News reported Thursday.
At the start of the world championships, Lindell-Wikarby sustained a badly torn right knee ligament near the end of a training run Wednesday and will miss the balance of the alpine season.
A similar injury ended the 24-year-old’s 2003 season. Svenska Dagbladet reported because the knee injury normally takes at least six months to heal and rehabilitate, her career may be over.
Lindell-Wikarby finished 12th in the world championship super-G race on Tuesday after winning her first World Cup race less than two weeks ago at a super-G in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
