NHL: Florida 3, N.Y. Islanders 2

Posted on: Thursday, 5 February 2009, 21:49 CST

Tomas Vokoun returned from a bout with the flu to make 20 saves Thursday night and help the Florida Panthers hold off the New York Islanders 3-2.

Vokoun had started nine of 10 games before missing Tuesday's meeting with Toronto. He surrendered two power-play goals to the Islanders, but held them scoreless in the third period to give the Panthers their third win in four games.

Richard Zednik scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 7:21 remaining in the second period.

The Islanders had a season-best, four-game winning streak snapped. Despite their recent success, the Islanders still have the worst record in the NHL with 37 points.

Joey MacDonald, getting his first start since being activated from the injured reserve list Tuesday, allowed three goals on 29 shots.

The teams have split their four meetings this season.
