Movistar quarterfinals set in Chile

Tommy Robredo earned a spot in the quarterfinals Thursday with a straight-sets victory over Brian Dabul at the Movistar Open in Vina del Mar, Chile.

Robredo, seeded second, ousted Dabul 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) to set up a meeting with Juan Ignacio Chela. Playing in his first tournament since last year’s French Open, Chela defeated Martin Vassallo Arguello 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Fourth-seeded Jose Acasuso, who won this tournament three years ago, defeated Thomaz Bellucci 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 and will take on Sebastian Decoud in the quarters. Decoud was a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 winner over Agustin Calleri.

The other quarterfinals will send top-seeded Fernando Gonzalez against No. 5 Juan Monaco and Pablo Cuevas against Paul Capdeville.

Gonzalez is the defending champion and a three-time winner of this event.
