Too much snow scrubs Worlds downhill
February 8, 2009
Heavy snow prompted the cancellation of Sunday’s women’s downhill World Championships in France, officials announced.
The International Skiing Federation said in a written statement it was unable to get the course at Val d’Isere in shape for the race and postponed it until Monday.
The downhill and the scheduled men’s super-combined will both be Monday as well.
Lindsey Vonn of the United States is considered a favorite for the gold medal along with Swiss teenager Lara Gut and host country hero Marie Marchand-Arvier.
