February 11, 2009

Kobe Bryant scored 34 points Tuesday in the LA Lakers’ 105-98 win over Oklahoma City, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to reach 23,000 career points.

Bryant, who also had seven rebounds, reached 23,000 points with 5:13 left in the second quarter. Bryant, 30, is five days young than Wilt Chamberlain was when he reached the milestone. Bryant joined the NBA right out of high school, while Chamberlain played four years of college ball first.

The Lakers, who also got 22 points and 14 rebounds from Pau Gasol, and 12 points from Lamar Odom, notched their seventh straight win and 11th of out of 12 games.

Kevin Durant had 31 points with 10 boards for the Thunder, which lost after winning two in a row.

After 25-25 first quarter, the Lakers went up 60-47 by halftime. The Thunder pulled back to within 78-73 late in the third period but weren’t able to complete the comeback.
