Danny Chai had a pair of eagles Friday and owned a 3-shot lead halfway through the Malaysian Open, an Asian stop for the European PGA Tour.
Chai shot 7-under 65 and was at 13-under 131 after 36 holes. Alexander Noren, who shot a 1-under 71, is alone in second place at 10-under. Seung-Yul Noh, who had a first-round 62, shot 1-over 73 in the second round and was in third place at 9-under. Four golfers tied for fourth at 8-under.
Chia started on the back nine and opened with a birdie. He added birdies at 13 and 14 and another at the 17th allowing him to make the turn in 32.
He had three consecutive pars to start the front side before getting an eagle 2 at the 331-yard fourth hole. He bogeyed No. 5 but holed out a 90-yard wedge shot on the par 5 seventh for eagle to get to 13-under.
Noren had nine birdies in his first round but had just two to go with a bogey on Friday. Noh's first round featured nine birdies, an eagle and a bogey but he was much more inconsistent in the second round, fighting through three bogies to go with two birdies.
