Sam Young scored 18 points Saturday on 7-of-9 shooting and fourth-ranked Pittsburgh pulled away to an 85-69 win Big East win over Cincinnati.
Pitt shot 72 percent (18-of-25) from the field in the opening 20 minutes and led 43-32 at halftime.
A 3-pointer by Larry Davis and Rashad Bishop’s layup drew Cincinnati within 51-45 with 15:35 left, but from that point, Pitt was in control.
DeJuan Blair had 17 points and seven rebounds.
Jermaine Dixon scored 14 points and Gilbert Brown 12. Levance Fields added 11 points and 13 assists for the Panthers (23-2, 10-2), who have won five in a row.
They have a date at top-ranked Connecticut Monday night.
Mike Williams led Cincinnati with 17 points and five rebounds.
Davis scored 13 points by canning 6-of-7 shots, and Dion Dixon, the only other player in double figures, scored 10 points for the Bearcats (17-9, 7-6), who had won three in a row.
